The Definitive Guide to Ediciones Limitadas
Browsing on Instagram, it is uncomfortably common to find people that got scammed with their cigars. That is simply the cold hard truth. This article is our contribution to better and more educated buys for all the community.
Since our earlier days, we are on a campaign to reduce the number of counterfeit cigars on the market. Rules that define an Edicion Limitada cigar:
- Must be built in a size that doesn’t exist in the brand’s actual portfolio or feature vitolas that are not in production for many years;
- Produced only in the year that they are limited to;
- Darker and thicker wrappers than other regular production cigars;
- Usage of premium tobacco that is aged for a minimum of 2 years;
- The leaves come exclusively from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Rio;
- Presence of a second band featuring a black and gold coloring.
Exceptions:
- From 2000 to 2006, the filler and binder were fermented and aged in the same way as the standard production cigars. From 2006 until today, all leaves are at least 2 years old before being rolled.
- The first Ediciones Limitadas, launched in 2000, are the only ones where no date is featured on the second band.
- There is a very rare Vegas Robaina EL 2001 called the Prominente that was gifted to the audience of the famous 2002 Habanos Festival. Only 800 units were made.
- The Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 has been appearing in the market with box dates from 2017, 2018, and 2019. By no means are the 2018 and 2019 fake boxes, they are just an exception to the rule “Produced only in the year that they are limited to”.
These are very special, unique, and highly collectible cigars and therefore very attractive for counterfeiters. In the next lines, we embark on a journey of every Edicion Limitada cigar produced in its specific year. We wanted to show you the photos of the cigars so you can see all the nuances on every cigar band.
The first year: 2000
In the year 2000, Habanos launched the first Edicion Limitadas cigars and until now, they are the only ones with no date on the second band.
